Burnout in Kids isn’t Just Physical
Parents often think kids burn out because they’re doing too much football.
Too many sessions.
Too many matches.
Too much running around.
But the truth is, it’s rarely the amount of football that’s the problem…
It’s what’s happening inside those sessions.
Some kids can play for hours in the park and never get tired.
They’ll run around for ages and we’ll wonder where they get their energy from.
The reason? Because that’s play.
It’s freedom.
It’s fun.
It’s theirs.
But in too many environments, football becomes something else:
-
Too much instruction
-
Too many stoppages
-
Too much pressure to “get it right”
Every time a child is told when to pass, where to stand, or what to do… their brain is working overtime.
They’re not just physically tired, they’re mentally drained.
That’s the kind of burnout that doesn’t come from running too much…it comes from also having to think too much.
So if your child’s lost a bit of motivation or looks like they’ve fallen out of love with football, don’t panic.
Don’t pull them away from the game.
Instead, find a place where play is the foundation of everything and add that sort of session into their week.
Somewhere where mistakes aren’t punished, learning is hidden inside games, and freedom comes first.
That’s how they’ll rediscover why they loved kicking a ball around in the first place and it’ll be a nice release for them away from their other, more ‘serious’ sessions.
