It’s not all about talent in football…
How many people do you know who were good at a sport but just didn’t have the passion, desire or simply thought they were too good and therefore didn’t have to work hard?
Things like staying humble and having a good work ethic are so important – we as parents and coaches need to promote these things to our children.
Passion is the tricky one.
Kids can easily build a passion for something but so often we see that passion dwindle because they fall out of love with things like football.
Reasons?
Being forced to do it
Training too much
Behaviour of parents on the sidelines
Poor coaching
Boring training sessions
Making it too serious
Managers making it all about themselves
The list can go on but it’s about us grown-ups controlling what we can control (our behaviour, approach etc) so that we give our children/players the best possible chance of staying passionate about their chosen sport.
Those with talent might then go onto bigger and better things.
The rest might at least still continue playing the sport and being active well into adulthood.
And either one is a massive win
