Replace How for Why in Kids Football Coaching
When it comes to kids football, one thing we’ve learnt over the years is constantly telling kids how to do something is often not as effective (for learning) as asking them why they did something.
That little word swap can:
– Develops critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
– Allows kids to take ownership of their learning
– Promote intrinsic motivation
– Develop communication skills
– Help them retain information
– Allow them to adapt learning to different situations
– Builds curiosity
We as parents and coaches have all been guilty of telling ours kids how to do something or over-instructing.
Try asking them why they did what they did and guide/question from there.
