The Game Is The Best Teacher in Children’s Football Coaching
If there’s one thing we’ve learnt it’s the game is the best teacher.
We as coaches can of course make a huge difference.
But coaches can also harm a child’s progress with their approach; particularly at the younger ages and with beginner players.
Any of these sound familiar?
Having kids in long lines waiting for a turn
Why is this still happening?
Overuse of things like tactics boards
Spending ages drawing on a whiteboard and moving magnets around will not make them better at football
Stop-start coaching
Anyone who has ever played the game will tell you there is nothing more boring than a coach who stops play every 2 mins to let everyone know how much they think they know about football
Grassroots coaches have a short time with players.
Maximise it by letting the session flow.
Stop it only when necessary and only if you can enhance their learning.
Bring the joy of street football into your sessions with the added benefit of guidance & encouragement and see the difference it makes to their development and, most importantly…
Their enjoyment.
The game is the best teacher.
Let them play!
