Top Tip Tuesday – How to Create a Black Belt Mindset
Solid advice from the main man Ricky Lam
It’s easy to give-in to our kids when they are kicking up a fuss about not wanting to go to an activity.
Of course there are those times when the reasons are serious and need extra care. But a majority of the time it’s the little things that we parents just need to deal with.‘I’m too tired’‘It’s too cold’‘I don’t like it anymore’ (even though they absolutely loved it the week before
).
The easy option is to give in.After all, it’s only ONE missed class. What harm can that cause? It’s that ONE time that quickly becomes two, then three…
In other examples, maybe a child is having a bit of hard time at an activity.
Perhaps a few others in the class haven’t been too nice to them or they are struggling with the difficulty level.
Again, the easy option is to quit. But the better option is to stick with it.
Maybe later down the line you’ll come to the conclusion that quitting is actually the best option.
But at least your child will have tried to push through in the meantime.
That’s huge and something that will help them deal with problems in the future.
Even better, maybe they stick at it and all is well again after a little while.
Again, think about the lessons they learn from that.
In any situation we always advice involving your child’s coach/trainer.
Speak to them, let them know what’s happening and see how they can help.
We’ve had countless examples of this at Foot-Tech and, more often than not, any issues are quickly dealt with.
This is a clip from an awesome chat we had with Ricky a while ago.
