Two Ways To Learn More About Football Coaching
Coaches, the traditional courses are not the be-all and end-all when it comes to learning more about coaching.
We’ve enjoyed plenty of those courses but we’ve actually learnt a lot more in the last few years by looking at other things.
Of course, the ‘official’ courses need to be done if you want to work at a higher level…
But getting on them can be hard and some people simply want to learn more but don’t want to do the usual courses because they enjoy working at the grassroots level.
Here are 2 things you can look at:
1. Skill Acquisition research
Have a search around and you’ll find plenty online related to skill acquisition in football.
This stuff is great because it teaches you about how kids learn and the best way to maximise that; this turned us into better coaches because it changed our approach.
You’ll learn about using things like constraints in your sessions and you’ll see that simple tweaks can make a big difference to the development of your players.
Have a look at Mark Williams who goes a deeper on the football-specific side of things in skill acquisition.
2. Football Coach Evolution (FCE)
Anyone who has followed us for a while will know we are big fans of FCE and have done several in-person and online courses as well as read plenty of the books they have available.
They are simply the best football coaching courses/resources we’ve ever looked at because the info is based on evidence and facts.
You can see what they have available on their site but we’d recommend trying an online course that you can do around your other commitments or start with one of the books.
Hope that helps but speak to us if you’d like any more advice.
A lot of the time coaches just want new drills but the stuff above will help you become a better coach for your players.
*We are in no way affiliated with any of the above. We just think they offer a lot of value to those who want expand their football coaching knowledge*
